About Our Award-Winning British Craft Rum

Rum is one of the world’s oldest spirits, but it’s also one of the most misunderstood.

At its core, rum starts with sugarcane. That sugar is fermented, distilled and then matured to create a spirit that can range from light and fresh to rich and complex. Traditionally, most rum is made from molasses, a by-product of sugar production, while some styles (such as rhum agricole) are made directly from fresh sugarcane juice.

Like whisky or brandy, the choices made during fermentation, distillation and blending have a huge impact on the final flavour.

How our rum is made

The Open Grove Distiller’s Blend is built around a high-quality molasses-based rum, carefully distilled to retain character rather than strip everything away. To bring added freshness and lift, we blend in a small proportion of rhum agricole, a cane-juice rum known for its grassy, aromatic notes.

The result is a spirit with:

Natural sweetness from the sugarcane itself

Bright, fresh top notes

A smooth, rounded finish

Crucially, we don’t rely on shortcuts. There are no added sugars, colourings or flavourings used to mask flaws or create artificial richness.

Why our rum is different

Many modern rums are heavily sweetened or spiced after distillation, which can hide the underlying spirit and make different brands taste surprisingly similar.

We take a different approach. Our rum is designed to be honest and versatile — something you can sip neat, enjoy over ice, or use in simple cocktails without it being overwhelmed by sugar or gimmicks.

This balance and purity is what helped earn 2 Great Taste stars, and it’s why we describe The Distiller’s Blend as a whisky of the rum world.

A rum made to be enjoyed your way

Whether you’re new to rum or already a fan, our aim is simple: to create a British craft rum that rewards curiosity, stands up on its own and proves just how good rum can be when it’s made with care.
